G'day guys! Today (27/5/2013) we begin our energy unit! We started off making windmills using procedural text- they are looking great and they WORK!
The first activity is to be answered on your wiki page, I hope you all have one, you should by now!
I would like you to discuss the following questions with a partner, then report onto your energy wiki page.
What is energy and how is it used?
What are the different types of energy?
How do we use energy in our daily lives?
How can we conserve energy in our daily lives?
Why is it important to use less energy?
You are to show your prior energy knowledge and new knowledge aquired from your partner dicussions on your page.Good luck with your first task. You have about 50 minutes. From Miss Fitz :-) Task 2Think about how energy use might be affected by the seasons. Discuss the following:
When is winter?
What activities do you like to participate in during winter?
Which appliances or items that use energy do we use more, or differently, during winter?
Consider: heater, electric blankets, fridge, freezer, lighting, dryer, television, gaming systems, shower/water usage, washing machines etc Task 3 After watching the BTN report on Wind Farms, you will need to summarise the report, giving the main idea. This will need to be presented on your Energy Wiki page. Remember a summary should be 3-5 sentences long, written in a paragraph. Task 4 Using the link on Miss Fitz's wiki, find out "What is Biomass Energy'? Explain what biomass is and give 5 facts about biomass. To be successful, you will present it creatively, it will be spelt correctly, you will have 5 facts and will have explained what biomass is in your own words. I would like to see an appropriate picture to accompany your writing. FINAL TASK WHAT DO YOU KNOW NOW THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW BEFORE WE STARTED OUR INQUIRY INTO ENERGY?
You need to present your final task as an acrostic poem, showing all your new knowledge. Your key words RENEWABLE ENERGY. Show me what you know!
